2018 Benanti 'Contrada Cavaliere' Etna Rosso, Sicily (750ml)   

Dr. Giuseppe Benanti started producing wine from his father’s old farm on the slopes of Mount Etna at the end of the 1800s. Over 100 years later, Giuseppe’s grandson, also named Giuseppe, revived those vineyards and now produces wine with the help of his sons, Antonio and Salvino.

Benanti's Etna Rosso is a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappucio, both tradtional varieties on the slopes of Etna. We have enjoyed the wines from Benanti for several vintages now and absolutely agree they are one of the best, most traditional producers on the island of Sicily. This Etna Rosso is not only delicious and very friendly but it's also quite a deal at $25 a bottle! It is a beautifully made wine that shows well now and clearly has a long life ahead in the cellar.
