A very modern style of Alicante, with deep and rich dark plum and berry flavors, moderate oak and ample but fine-grained tannins. Really quite delicious.

We included this fine red in a recent Portugal Flight Night at our Mission Bay location and it was a big hit. Alicante Bouschet is a vine cross that was developed in France in the 1850's. It has been quite successful in Portugal, but is usually used as a blending component due to its rich color and fruit. In the Alentejo and Tejo regions of Portugal in particular it makes a delicious wine on its own. In the past wqe have found some of these wines to either over-extracted or over-oaked, or both. This wine is neither and is an absolute home run.
