2021 Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley, California (750ml)

Duckhorn is understandably more well known for its Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines yet they have been making a delicious Sauvignon Blanc since 1982. It has always stood out from other Napa Valley Sauvignons because they include a fair amount of Semillon and age it partially in oak barrels, both of which add texture, weight and complexity.

Their inspiration for vinifying it this way is to produce a wine in the style of a classic white Bordeaux and it is always one of California's best representations of those great wines. This 2019 is a blend of 84% Sauvignon Blanc and 16% Semillon which was aged 'sur lie' for five months in 10% new French oak oak and 90% stainless steel. Winemaker Renee Ary describes it as having "alluring aromas of lychee, pineapple cake and nectarine that leap from the glass, along with zesty notes of grapefruit and lime. On the palate, this beautifully structured wine strikes a seamless balance between its rich, silky texture and the crisp acidity that adds poise and freshness to the abundant layers of bright citrus fruit." We agree 100%!
