2021 Ciro Picariello Fiano Irpinia, Campania, Italy (750ml)   

Irpinia Fiano is a declassified version of Fiano di Avellino from estate-bottled fruit, made from younger vines in the villages of Summonte and Montefredane. It shows essentially the same characteristics as the DOCG, but with less dramatic mineral and stone notes. This base level Fiano is perfect for immediate drinking and by the glass.

This Fiano from Ciro Picariello is consistently one of our favorite white wines from Campania, especially at the price point. Fiano can be challenging to pin down stylistically, as it seems to reflect not only its growing conditions but also producer ambitions. On balance, that is a good thing we believe, but in that evolving landscape the reliability of a producer such as Ciro is also much appreciated.
