N.V. Henri Goutorbe Cuvee Prestige Brut, Champagne, France (750ml)

This Cuvée Prestige Premier Cru Brut is a blend of 25% Chardonnay from Bisseuil, 70% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier from Aÿ Grand Cru and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ Premier Cru. The base wine is from the 2008 vintage along with 25% from the 2006 and 2007 vintages.

The final blend was fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged on the lees for 48 months before disgorgement. A refined, seamless wine with minerality and personality, it's more of a 'Gourmand' Champagne as opposed to enjoying over an aperitif. It has the structure and textural depth to flow through an entire meal at the dinner table. That said, it was also a big hit on the wine bar, enjoyed by all who ordered it! Henri Goutorbe’s father, Emile, was an expert ‘nurseryman’ at propagating vines and established a nursery after WWI while he was working for Perrier-Jouët. The success of his side business enabled Emile to purchase a few hectares of vines in Aÿ and then Henri started producing small amounts of estate bottled Champagne in 1940 while still running the family nursery. In 1970, Henri’s son, René, took over running things and expanded the family’s land under vine to 25 hectares with 70% planted to Pinot Noir, 27% to Chardonnay and 3% to Pinot Meunier. The epicenter of their holdings is the six hectares of Grand Cru vines in Aÿ yet their estate also spans to the villages of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Bisseuil, Avenay Val d’Or and Hautvilliers.
