The history of Ridge Vineyards could fill a book with fascinating details about the beginning of California’s wine industry in the late 1800s. The iconic Monte Bello winery high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains is well worth a visit, especially for the chance to meet the amazing, Paul Draper, the philosopher winemaker who is responsible for making Ridge into the world class producer it is today.

Thanks to the genius of Mr. Draper, Ridge Vineyards is also synonymous with California Zinfandel and is widely regarded as one of the best producers of the varietal. Ridge had released small quantities of its first Zinfandel in 1964 from the vines planted on the Monte Bello property in the 1890s, and in 1966, made its first Geyserville Zin from the famous Sonoma County vineyard planted in 1882. Paul has passionately pursued his objective to make the best Zinfandels possible, often targeting long forgotten 100-year-old field blends as his various fruit sources. Learning about the importance of terroir and expressing the character of a particular site from his winemaking training in France, he started labeling his wines with the specific vineyard names, essentially creating the first vineyard-designated wines in California.

We will enjoy five of Ridge’s most distinctive and popular bottlings of these amazing vineyard-designate Zinfandels, with Jane as our guide. At only $36 for a two-ounce taste of all five of these great wines, this will be an amazing opportunity for all Ridge aficionados!
The featured flight wines will be served as two-ounce pours. 5-ounce glasses are also available.
