Jefferson’s was founded in 1997 by Trey Zoeller and his father Chet — a famed Bourbon historian who wrote the book on Kentucky distilleries. The Jefferson’s Ocean series started as an experiment of just three barrels. Each limited edition release of Jefferson’s "Aged at Sea" Ocean series is different — they call them "Voyages." The Bourbon is aged literally at sea. The route, the temperatures, and tossing of the sea are different. And they experiment with different mash bills, distillations, and woods too. Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 23 Bourbon is the current release. It starts with a blend conventionally aged Jefferson’s Bourbon seven and eight years old. They are married and "finished at sea." Each release has crossed the equator four times on average before reaching port and being bottled at 45% ABV.

Lagavulin is one of those classic Scottish single malts every true Whisky buff has to try. The story began in 1816 on the windy island of Islay, when John Jonston and Archibald Campbell first opened the distillery. They’re famous for their extra-long, “low and slow” distillation, which produces exceptionally smooth and flavorful Whisky. Lagavulin 8 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is aged for eight years in refill American oak casks. The whisky has an aroma of sea breeze, charcoal and citrus fruit, along with notes of old wood, breakfast tea, black currant and mint. The palate is distinctively Lagavulin, with complex smoke notes fading into cedar and ocean spray.

This heavy hitter from John E. Fitzgerald is by far one of the best high wheated bourbons on the market! While the numbers are growing, bourbons with wheat as the secondary grain are still in the minority. Heaven Hill acquired the Old Fitzgerald Brand in 1999, and in 2012, released what we know today as the Larceny very small batch bourbon. The use of winter wheat replaces the spicier, fruitier flavor notes that rye provides with a softer and rounder character. On first sip, lots of molasses, caramel and vanilla. Mix in some cherries, spiced cider, citrus, sugared malt, with a sublte oak heavy finish, and you have a great dram everytime.

In line with the traditional Italian style, the spirit centers around major flavor components: bitterness from gentian root and sweetness from cane sugar. Citrus is the third major component, so they add distilled coriander and grapefruit peels to give it a bright, citrus aroma. They then mix these components with a variety of fragrant flowering botanicals, including hyssop and Artemsia pontica. The color comes from cochineal (insects), which adds the vibrant red color that one expects from a traditional Aperitivo as it has been used in spirits for hundreds of years.

The Liquori delle Sirene are a collection of bitters and liqueurs made by the lovely Elisa Carta, a trained sommelier and olive oil taster, and a passionate herbalist. All of her products were born on Lake Garda, and were inspired by its gardens, colors, sunsets, and aromas. Many of the botanicals come from here. Though the category is dominated by more traditional red bitters, Sirene is characterized by a beautiful golden-auburn hue. The flavor is soft and warming but not overly sweet. The floral and herbal botanicals play off of each other and the kina and gentian surface on the finish, which is long and balanced with notes of salted caramel and vanilla.

From the Producer: To create this whisky, we travelled all the way to Jerez, Spain, and had Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry made especially for us. The casks, once filled with quality sherry and seasoned for one year in Jerez, were brought to the distillery to mature our New-Make spirit for a wonderful complex whisky. The M&H Elements Sherry is the first and only kosher single malt whisky in the world, aged in Sherry casks. This single malt reveals robust flavors of red fruit, dark chocolate, and oaky notes.

This is not going to send you barging down the aisles snatching up every bottle available, but it will call to you from the shelf on a Wednesday after work or when you’re looking to fool around with some cocktails. This is a workhorse of a whiskey and at the price, it’s hard to beat for that purpose.

We have taken a bold step with Dark Silkie in recreating the taste of Donegal whiskey in the 19th century, which will reintroduce drinkers to the rich smoky peated Irish Whiskey. Dark Silkie has at its core a triple distilled peated single malt which is matured in sherry casks. This single malt is peated to 55ppm (parts per million) which after the triple distillation results in a phenol level around 22ppm giving a rich sweet smoky flavour. The peated single malt is blended with a double distilled single malt matured in bourbon barrels and soft grain whiskey matured in virgin oak casks. TASTING NOTES The Legendary Dark Silkie has, on the nose, fresh apple, pipe tobacco and the comforting dry smoke of a peat fire.
