2019 Roots Wine Co. Pinot Noir “Crosshairs” Yamhill-Carlton, Oregon (750ml)

We are constantly on the hunt for tasty Pinot Noir at affordable prices, and Oregon seems to be one of the better areas for that search at the moment. This is our latest discovery.

Roots Wine Company was founded by Chris Berg and his wife, Hilary. It was actually Chris’ parents who first moved to Oregon from Illinois in the late 1990s when they purchased a manufacturing company in Tualatin. Chris followed them there with his wife Hilary after graduating college and moved to Portland to help out with the family business. The Bergs planted a seven acre Pinot Noir vineyard on their 25-acre property in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in 1999, sold their manufacturing company and became full time ‘wine country folk’. Two years later, Chuck and Dian moved to Arizona to be closer to Dian’s family and Chris and Hilary moved to the vineyard property to take over running the fledgling wine business. Today, they produce about 3,800 cases from their organically farmed estate vineyard as well as other vineyard designate wines they make from fruit they source from their neighbors. This ‘Crosshairs Cuvée’ Pinot Noir represents a blend of just such neighboring vineyards including; 5% from Carlton Hill 115 and Pommard clones, 22% from Saffron Fields Pommard and 777 clones, 38% from Fairsing Vineyard 115 clone and 40% from Roots Estate 113, 114, 777 clones. It was aged for 17 months in 30% new French oak barrels. Only 400 cases were produced. It is one of our fasting selling Pinots on the shelf, not just from Oregon, but from anywhere with its excellent price for the quality in the bottle.
