It is a Leap Year, so come take a leap with us into the potentially unknown as the fun and games continue for our FLIGHT NIGHTS!. On this occasion we will pour a set of wines blind and provide you with a list of the possible grape varieties used to produce them. The game is to match the wine to the correct grape variety. If you pay some attention to the characteristics of the wines you taste and drink, eventually you can build up a set of cerebral index cards tied to those qualities. Many consumers do not believe they can perform this feat, and yet go through every day encountering smells and flavors that they recognize without even thinking about it.

Are you Orange Wine-Curious? This evening will be a fine opportunity to explore this old-is-new wine category. Orange wines are usually made from white-skinned grape varieties, but during vinification the juice is left on the skins for an extended period of time. This gives the finished wines a deeper color - sometimes quite literally orange - as well as some of the texture more typical of a red wine. In our experience orange wines can be quite delicious, with a range of flavors not found in a wine made from the same vines in a more conventional manner. It is also true, however, that some orange wines are organoleptic train wrecks, usually because the producer paid insufficient attention to spoilage risks during production. We promise no train wrecks tonight!
