2021 Unti Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County, California (750ml)
About the Icons
We love most all of the wines Mick Unti makes, and also love hearing him explain the technical aspects and tasting notes behind them. Thus, without further ado, “this Zinfandel comes from our Primitivo-clone vineyard planted next to the winery in 1998. We favor the Primitivo-clone because it tends to produce berries that are smaller and with thicker skins, versus typical California Zinfandel selections. This leads to a richer wine with more tannin, which is characteristic of old-vine Zin.
Aged for 12 months in French oak, 35% new. Producer Notes ~ "Our 2019 Zinfandel is really a throw back to a more structured Dry Creek Zin. The growing season allowed for even ripening. Ever since we re-planted Petite Sirah next to our Benchland Syrah vineyard, it has really improved our Zin, which is readily apparent in this 2019. Similar to George's beloved 2017 Zin, this '19 will develop nicely over the next 3 to 5 years. Outstanding vintage for our Zin!"
