2020 Remoissenet Santenay 1er Cru 'Grand Clos Rousseau,' Burgundy, France (750ml)
About the Icons
Most of the best 2020 red Burgundies have long since been snapped up, as they are delicious now but also offer cellar potential. This is the case here, with a slightly deeper red fruit profile than typical of Santenay and the warmth of the vintage showing. Remoissenet has a long history, and today is run by Burgundy veteran Bernard Repolt and Pierre-Antoine Rovani, formerly of The Wine Advocate. Maybe we should rank the latter's performance on a 100 point scale!
Importer's notes - "The southernmost vineyard in Santenay, at the border with the village of Maranges, ‘Grand Clos Rousseau’ occupies the upper portion of the larger ‘Clos Rousseau’ vineyard. Soils are mostly decomposed white limestone, very mineral. Flavors suggest red fruit, baking spices; tannins are earthy, smooth. Produced from purchased fruit from a single parcel, owned by a quality-oriented grower who farms according to sustainable principles, with severely controlled yields. The steeply graded ‘Grand Clos Rousseau’ occupies the upper portion of the larger ‘Clos Rousseau’ vineyard, between 900 and 1,020 feet in altitude. Soils are primarily decomposed white limestone."
