2020 Bernard Ott Am Berg Gruner Veltliner Fass, Wagram, Austria (750ml)   

Bernard Ott has been making quite a name for himself in Austria and has really become known and respected for being a true Gruner Veltliner specialist. He is a fourth generation winemaker and took over his family's estate in 1993. He has converted all of his 28 hectares of vineyard holdings to biodynamic farming, which keeps him in the vineyard, exactly where he wants to be.

He doesn't have any oak anywhere in his winery so he lets his beautifully grown fruit be the focal point of his wines. This Am Berg is the "basic level bottling" at the estate typically produced at lower alcohol levels. The fruit comes from vineyards in the northern stretch of old Wagram where the soils are composed primarily of loess, in which Gruner Veltliner thrives.
