A Red Cellar Trio Wine Club Selection
This bottling is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot, sourced from sustainably farmed, IPW (Integrated Production of Wine) and WIETA (Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association) certified growers. Grapes were handpicked in March 2020. After vinification, the young wine was aged in oak for 16 months. 45% in first fill (new) barrels and the rest in second and third fills. Bottled in July 2021, filtered but not fined. 250 cases produced.

The Castell winery is a very picturesque estate in Northern Bavaria, between Frankfurt and Munich, that has remained family-owned for 26 generations. The origins of the Castell family can be traced back to the year 1057, when Rupert de Castell was the first of the family to be mentioned in the archives. The oldest record of the family’s right to bear the title of count can be found in a royal charter of 1205. Almost 700 years later, Prince Regent Leopold of Bavaria raised the Castell-Castell and Castell-Rüdenhausen lines to the rank of princes, who, even with such titles, remained devoted to agriculture, forestry and viticulture.

The birthplace of ‘Claret’ and home of the famous Haut-Brion, the Graves appellation in Bordeaux is known for its elegantly perfumed, flavorful wines. Graves refers to the gravely terrain—a veritable nirvana for Cabernet Sauvignon, and home to Château de Janicon. Established in the 1980s, Janicon is led by its third generation, winemaker Lou Rochet and her mother, Marie Vincent-Rochet.

Deep garnet color. Red fruited nose with hints of pepper and dried herbs. The palate shows black cherry, and boysenberry fruit with a touch of savory herbs, black olive and dried thyme. Nicely balanced, dusty tannins round out the juicy, yet elegant finish.

Samuel Baron owns an 18-hectare family domaine in the village of Thesée, on the right-bank of the Cher River, about 40 miles east of Tours. In 1946, Samuel’s grandfather was among the first winegrowers to plant Sauvignon Blanc grapes in the region. In 1998 Samuel’s father, Jean-Pierre, left the local winemaking co-op and began estate bottling wine. In 2010, Jean-Pierre handed the vineyard and winemaking duties to his son, Samuel, who transitioned the estate to organic farming (Agriculture Biologique), gaining certification in 2014.

Founded in 1905, Domaine Sauvète boasts four generations of artisan winemakers in Touraine. The family farms its 40 acres of vineyard land according to organic principles, and is certified organic by Ecocert. In recent years, they have incorporated more biodynamic practices, such as using plant-based teas and preparations to help combat vine maladies, and working according to the lunar calendar.

Led by Kiki Pfitzer-Simon and Ingo Simon, Gebrüder Simon's winegrowing tradition dates back to 1724, and continues to this day, guided by passion, tradition and innovation. The current sparkling wine facility was built in 1995, and all their sparkling wines are made in the traditional or classic method. Ingo Simon is often found in other wine regions, producing sparkling wines, and flying as far as the Republic of Georgia to manage the production of several red wines. He is a real character—known for his wry wit, and his astute seriousness when it comes to his craft. He is the driving force behind this small family venture located in Lösnich, facing the impossibly steep, amphitheater-like slopes of the famous Ürziger Würzgarten, or ‘Garden of Spices’, just across the Mosel river. The winery cultivates just 4.5 hectares of vines in the world-famous locations of Ürziger Würzgarten, Erdener Treppchen, Lösnicher Försterlay and Kinheimer Rosenberg.

Ripe yellow apple, a touch of subtle sweet oak, nicely positioned between an unoaked style Chardonnay at one extreme and a fruit and oak bomb at the other. This is a fine example of the increasing focus on excellent Chardonnay in Oregon's Willamette Valley, with its many micro-climates and complex geology.

85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Mark Ryan started making wines in friends’ garages in 1999. Largely self-taught, he combined his own studies with the advice of experienced wine producers. After 4 years of transient winemaking, he settled in Woodinville, Washington. From then onward, Mark has been a champion of Washington wines, making significant contributions to the Washington wine community, and helping to establish Washington as a prominent U.S. wine region.

Señorio de Barahonda is the oldest winery in the Yecla DO region of Spain. Its history dates back to 1850 when Pedro Candela Soriano began producing and selling small amounts of wine locally. However, it was in 1925, when Antonio Candela García inherited a small production facility, that the winery was officially founded. Today, his two sons, Antonio Jr. and Alfredo manage the winery and the family estate, drawing on the knowledge and traditions that have been handed down through the family for the past four generations.

2021 Catena "Vista Flores" Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina (750ml)

100% Malbec, and the current vintage uses screw cap. Producer Notes - "Family vintners for over 100 years, the Catenas are recognized for their pioneering role in high-altitude viticulture and in leading Argentina's Malbec revolution. In the 1950´s, Don Domingo Catena began sourcing Malbec from the historic vineyards of Vista Flores. Domingo prized the region's Malbec for its dark colored and structured tannins. This wine goes through cold maceration for 2-6 days at 50ºF (10ºC). The juice is then fermented for 8-16 days with a post-fermentation maceration of 2-12 days. 12 months in French oak barrel (35% new). Barrel selection varies depending on vineyard and vintage. French oak. Vista Flores Vineyard (1100m/3608ft). Alluvial origin. Loamy soil, with rounded rocks on the bottom (80% Sand - 10% Clay - 10% Silt)."
2021 Centopassi Catarratto "Terre Rosse di Giabbascio" Sicily, Italy (750ml)

Catarratto is one of the grape varieties native to Sicily. In wines such as this single vineyard white from the "Terre Rosse di Giabbascio" (red soils of Gabbascio), they are crisp and bracing, with a mineral note and palate cleansing zip. Centopassi has interesting origins - it is erssentially a cooperative farming vineyards siezed in the island's long-running struggle against the malign influence of the Mafia. This wine is dedicated to the memory of Pio la Torre, a member of Parliament who was assassinated by the Mafia in 1982.
